Superman Vs Batman
It's the Man of Steel against the Dark Knight...Matt Damon may play the Man of Steel in a "clash of the titans" with fellow super-hero Batman.
The two saviours of the universe will fall out in Batman vs Superman, directed by Wolfgang Petersen.
Petersen, who directed The Perfect Storm, said he was looking for actors who can offer complex emotions as well as muscles - just as Sam Raimi did for Spider-Man.
He said: "Matt is an interesting action man and a hell of an actor.
"Everything after September 11 is different. You want to change the image of these super-heroes.
" It is a clash of the titans. They play off each other so perfectly. They are two sides of the same coin.
"(Superman) is clear, bright, all that is noble and good, and Batman represents the dark, obsessive and vengeful side."
Damon is already well used to being part of a double act. He starred alongside best mate Ben Affleck in Chasing Amy, Good Will Hunting and Dogma.
The cast of Batman vs Superman, being made for Warner Bros, is expected to be finalised within the next month.
The film is not a sequel to either comic book series.
In fact sequels to both Batman - who has been played by George Clooney, Val Kilmer and Michael Keaton - and Superman, who Christopher Reeve played four times, are in development.
