Gibson and Phoenix out for Shyamalan movie screening

Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix jetted into New York for the premiere of their new thriller, Signs, from writer-director M Night Shyamalan.

Other Hollywood players who turned up to watch Shyamalan's sci-fi flick about crop circles were Bruce Willis, Clueless actress Alicia Siverstone, Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick and Matthew Modine, along with his wife, Cari.

Sixth Sense director Shyamalan said: "I've always been intrigued by crop circles but I couldn't find a way to work them into a movie."

That is, until now, where his film, set in Pennsylvania, focuses on the mysterious appearance of a 500ft design of circles and lines carved into a family's crops.

Mel Gibson stars as Graham Hess, the family patriarch, who is tested in his journey to find the truth behind the unfolding mystery, and Joaquin Phoenix plays his brother.

Signs opens in the UK mid-September.
