Vin Blows XXXs To The Top

Diesel's film is America's favourite this week

Action thriller XXX, starring Vin Diesel, blasted competition out of the way and hit the top spot at the US box office this weekend.

Directed by Rob Cohen, who also worked on The Fast And The Furious with Diesel, the film took over £30m in i

ts opening weekend, shunting Mel Gibson's Signs into second place.

The star and director are both already lined up for the sequel.

Following from last year's original, Spy Kids 2: The Island Of Lost Dreams, starring Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, opened third and brought in over £11m.

Austin Powers' latest effort, Goldmember, followed closely behind, and bringing up the rear of the top five was Clint Eastwood's Blood Work, which tells the tale of an FBI agent who gets pulled out of retirement to solve an old case.

Road To Perdition fell two places to seventh and Stuart Little 2 took £1,780,000, just staying in the top 10.
