Spider-Man Spins 12A Rating
Blockbuster re-released to take advantage of new kids' certificateNo sooner had the British Board of Film Classification introduced a new category for kids than Columbia TriStar had found a spin.
It is to re-release summer blockbuster Spider-Man with the new 12A certificate, to allow so-far disappointed and under-age kids to watch it - as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
Under the new ruling, any responsible adult over 18, including uncles, aunts, teachers and older siblings as well as parents, will be able to accompany the youngsters.
BBFC Director Robin Duval said: "We know that the development and maturity of children varies considerably and parents know best what their children can deal with.
"It is important, however, that young children have an adult with them in case they are disturbed by anything they may see."
Advisory ratings for this group have been the norm in most of Europe, America, Australia and Canada and the BBFC had come to the decision after extensive research and a pilot exercise in Norwich last year.
The mandatory 12 category was introduced for films in 1989 and videos in 1994 and will remain in force for videos.
