Damon Slams 12A Bourne
Matt's pyschologist mum disapproves of children seeing violenceMatt Damon has lashed out at British censors who decided any child can cope with the violence of his new film.
Matt thinks The Bourne Identity should have been rated 15 - instead, it is the first film to be given the new 12A certificate, meaning any parent can take their child to see it.
Matt, whose mother is child pyschologist Nancy Carlsson-Paige, said there was a strong link between on-screen violence and aggressive behaviour in children.
"I don't have control over the ratings of these movies.
But I would urge parents to be mindful, maybe go and watch the movie beforehand," he said.He also thinks the American ratings system needs to be "totally overhauled".
US censors gave the film a PG-13 rating - again meaning it's up to the parent whether their child can watch.
Matt told BBC Radio 5 Live that his mother had criticised the film's certification to waiting media after seeing it with her son in their native Boston.
The 12A certificate was introduced by the British Board of Film Classification just last Friday.
