Hammer's original vampire film, an excellent adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic book. Plus, glossy, but above all scarifying, with a devastatingly effective climax whose special effects were much imitated in subsequent years. Christopher Lee is definitely intimidating in the title role and the film is directed by Terence Fisher with drive and great single-mindedness. Many sequels followed, all with Lee as Dracula, but none of them are half as good as this one.
