Mike Todd's glistening film adaptation of Jules Verne's famous extravaganza, starring David Niven as trans-global traveller Phileas Fogg, was overwhelmingly voted Best Film of the Year at the 1956 Academy Awards ceremony.
The screenplay, music and photography also garnered Oscars.
More than 40 guest stars appear in cameo roles, and Robert Newton takes his last film role as the intrepid Inspector Fix.
Still sporadically entertaining today, even if its length now works against it.
