A rarely seen, exciting but ultimately flawed sci-fi adventure from Disney that, thanks to its heavy marketing (and merchandising) campaign, was a must-see movie for under-12s back in the Seventies. However, there's enough to keep most kids (of all ages) entertained, when a deep space research vessel, manned by Joseph Bottoms, Anthony Perkins and Yvette Mimieux, discovers a missing ship commanded by a mad scientist (Maximilian Schell) nestling on the edge of a black hole. Roddy McDowall and Slim Pickens provide the voices for the lovable robots. With some great visual effects, it's still fun to watch now, although it can be a little dark in places.
