Rupert Everett

Rupert Everett

Born: 29 May 1959
Where: Norfolk, England

The former model has gained notoriety as consort of Madonna... but has also built up an ever impressive portfolio of acting roles.

He was nominated for a Golden Globe for My Best Friend's Wedding with Julia Roberts which he followed up with a second for An Ideal Husband.

""I have nothing to complain about... except maybe people wondering if a queen like me can butch-it-up enough to play a convincing straight man."

Everett dropped out of the prestigious public school Ampleforth at 15 to enrol at London's Central School of Speech and Drama - but was expelled for insubordination.

Instead of finishing his studies, Everett apprenticed at the Glasgow Citizen's Theatre in Scotland.

A struggling actor, Everett earned extra money on the streets, so he claims, as a rent boy, before moving to Milan and becoming a successful model.

In 1982, Everett used his experience of privilege play a public schoolboy in the impressive Another Country and went on to star in the Ruth Ellis biopic Dance With A Stranger.

After the disquieting Comfort of Stangers his career went onto hold before Robert Altman cast him in Pret A Porter.

A small but memorable turn in The Madness of King George got his career going again and he eventually accepted a part in My Best Friend's Wedding.

He had a small role in Shakespeare In Love and played Sir Arthur Gore in An Ideal Husband and the evil Claw in Inspector Gadget.

Hooking up with his pal Madonna, he starred in The Next Best Thing and went to appear as Algy in Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.

He played King Charles I in Mike Barker's To Kill A King, provided voice work for Shrek 2 and appeared in the theatrical drama Stage Beauty.

He has also written two novels; Hello Darling, Are You Working? and The Hairdressers of St Tropez.

Recent work includes a louche adulterer alongside Emily Watson and Tom Wilkinson in the middle-class thriller Separate Lies.
