David Caruso
Born: 7 January 1956
Where: Forest Hills, New York
To pick up extra money between jobs, David worked for the New York police department, standing in line-ups for $25 a time.
In 1978 he moved to Los Angeles and had his feature debut in the horror pic Without Warning, and a small screen debut in the 1950s nostalgia movie Crazy Times, which also starred newcomer Ray Liotta. This was followed a few years later with a part in an Officer And A Gentleman.
It was his acclaimed portrayal of Robert De Niro's macho partner in Mad Dog and Glory that convinced the NYPD Blue team to hire him as Detective John Kelly.
After one critically revered season, from which he received a Golden Globe Award, David asked for a substantial salary increase and following a few weeks of negotiations was replaced on the series.
Film work followed with a remake of the noir classic Kiss of Death, then a role in box office failure, Jade.
He shot Body Count with Linda Fiorentino and Forest Whitaker, then appeared in the Meg Ryan/Russell Crowe film, Proof Of Life, before working on horror flick Session 9.
