The actress is best known for the part of Caitlin Moore in the American TV comedy Spin City although she has featured on the big screen intermittently.
She quit UCLA to follow a career in acting to make her screen debut in Tales of the Unexpected in 1979.
After appearances in TJ Hooker and Dynasty, she made her big screen debut in the Stephen King chiller Firestarter.
Next up was The Return of the Swamp Thing (for which she was given a Razzle Worst Actress Award).
For the next few years she worked almost exclusively on TV, with roles in Melrose Place, before returning to the big screen in The First Wives Club in an uncredited role.
Locklear followed this with the crime caper Money Talks and as an undercover FBI agent in the action thriller Double Tap with Stephen Rea.
Spin City gave her the chance to shine and she was nominated twice for Golden Globes for her role opposite Michael J Fox.
Offscreen, she was married to Pamela Anderson's ex-husband Tommy Lee and is now married to Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora.
Recent work includes Uptown Girls with Britanny Murphy and the Disney animated caper Looney Tunes: Back in Action.
