Andie MacDowell's voice was redubbed for the film by Glenn Close.
Beautifully shot and well acted, this $33million British epic's main assets are Christopher Lambert's charismatic turn as the Lord of the Apes and the fact that the yarn sticks close to Edgar Rice Burroughs's novel.

The jungle-set first half works best and, if the film is on less sure ground when adult Tarzan is brought back to Edwardian England, it's still enjoyable. Production was fraught: newcomer Andie MacDowell was cast as Tarzan's girlfriend Jane, but her lines had to be re-dubbed by Glenn Close. Endless footage made a successful final cut difficult though, when Ralph Richardson died, the film was happily re-edited to show off all his lovely scenes as Tarzan's grandpa.
