Mellower, involved in politics to a degree, and moved into his own office, it's not quite the Kojak we used to know in this investigation, even though he's still played by Telly Savalas. Uncomfortably grafted on to an existing novel (Dorothy Uhnat's The Investigation), his character has to solve a case that involves an enigmatic woman (a terrific performance from Canadian-born actress Kate Nelligan) suspected of murdering her own sons. A tense, complex mystery in which Kojak, perhaps predictably, comes under pressure from those above him but sticks doggedly to the case.
