An emotionally charged telefilm with a fistful of intense performances to keep its developments bubbling. Accompanied by an uncharacteristically sombre score by prolific French composer Georges Delerue, the plot concerns five Los Angeles matrons who believe they have identified the sadistic Nazi responsible for their torture in a concentration camp during World War Two. Loretta Swit plays the leader of the would-be avengers with dignity and convincingly obsessive determination, Sandy Dennis's twitches and nervous gestures have never been better employed than in her role here. That underused actress Jessica Walter is commanding in her too-few scenes, Valerie Harper credibly portrays the lawyer opposed to her friend's revenge plan and Barbara Barrie gives a fine display of inner strength beneath a gentle exterior as the remaining member of the quintet. Rip Torn is suitable nasty as the man they're after.
