Grampian TV and Film Four International helped to make this film in conjunction with the British Film Institute and the Scottish Film Production Fund, and it won a prize at the Barcelona Film Festival of 1989. Alongside the many actors from the Grampian area involved in the making of this love-story-within-a-story set on the Hebridean island of Barra is the up-and-coming actress Tilda Swinton. Screenplay writer John Berger also appears as the storytelling stranger who sets main plot in motion.
