Striking special effects and scary scenes when the bug-like aliens return to their proper shape made one blink at the British censor's decision to let this well-made pastiche of 1950s horror films off with a PG certificate. By and large, though, director and co-writer Michael Laughlin succeeds in his aim of 'recapturing a sense of fun characteristic of Hollywood in the 50s', though the separate elements of light comedy and heavy horror don't always mix readily, even with the engagingly offbeat performances of stars Paul LeMat and Nancy Allen. But the whole thing is made with such pace and affection that you can't really complain.
