The story of a boy groom (Navin Chowdhry, the young star of Madame Sousatzka), and his horse. Their adventures take them from mystical Tunisia to the court of the French King Louis XV and Britain's Newmarket racecourse, where they cross paths with none other than King George II and Queen Caroline (Richard Harris and Glenda Jackson looking embarrassed but taking the money and running). Quite a storyline: it's just a pity that the script is so poorly written and that director Peter Duffell fails to create any dramatic tension. It's clear that Duffell wanted to recreate the look of the period but he fails in the end to convince us of either time or period. Chowdhry looks pretty miserable throughout as well he might: his character is mute and he can only stand and watch as a distinguished English cast hams away strenuously in the foreground.
