Nicholas Eadie gives a convincing performance in this well-made and at times moving Australian film biography of Damien Parer, a young Australian documentary cameraman who was to become a World War Two legend. Having barely finished his apprenticeship, Parer found himself aboard a troopship bound for the Middle East in January 1940. The next four years up until his death were to see him become a world-famous figure, risking his life to record the heroism, horror and poignancy of war. Well-chosen excerpts from Elgar's First Symphony enhance the film's atmosphere. Those who are interested in World War Two history shouldn't miss this carefully done and caring film.
