Clare Peploe
Born: Tanzania
The writer and director first attracted attention when she co-scripted Zabriskie Point for Michelangelo Antonioni in 1970.
Following that she worked with Bernardo Bertolucci as assistant director on 1900 and La Luna and ended up marrying the Italian director.
Subsequently developing a career as a director, she made her big screen debut with the comedy High Season with Jacqueline Bisset.
"Russell Crowe had a nice seediness about him. And when you're in California -- as a European - I find seediness incredibly sexy."
She went on to make a segement of the TV series Chillers before returning to the big screen with Rough Magic, starring Russell Crowe and Bridget Fonda.
Recent work includes The Triumph of Love, an adaptation of the 1732 play by French writer Pierre de Marivaux.
