Gerard McSorley
Born: Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland McSorley is famous for his portrayal of Irish heavies of both sides of the law in countless movies from Michael Collins to Veronica Guerin.
An actor in Dublin theatre for more than 30 years, he created the role of Michael in Dancing at Lughnasa in London's West End and Broadway.
He made his feature debut in Neil Jordan's Angel in 1982 and subsequent appearances including In The Name of the Father and Moondance.
In 1995 he starred in Mel Gibson's Braveheart and returned to Ireland to make Some Mother's Son and Michael Collins.
Roles followed in The Butcher Boy, The Boxer and Felicia's Journey opposite Bob Hoskins.
Recent work includes Ordinary Decent Criminal and Joel Schumacher's Veronica Guerin in which he plays Dublin gangster John Gilligan.
