Hollywood's Mr Nice Guy, Tom Hanks, and Tinseltown's late lamented tub of fun, John Candy, teamed up for this lightweight comedy only a year after they played brothers in the hugely successful 'Splash'. The premise - compulsive gambler (Hanks) escapes from his creditors and inadvertently ends up on a Peace Corps mission to Thailand - is promising but considering the combined talents involved, the end product is largely disappointing. However, in their distinctly different ways, both leads prove worth watching here, and went on to greater glories. At least Hanks met actress Rita Wilson on the film: three years later she became his second wife.
