Anthony Lapaglia.Jpg

Anthony LaPaglia

Born: 31 January 1959
Where: Adelaide, Australia

A former school teacher in his native Australia, Anthony moved to NYC at the age of 25 and began acting in the theater, with his big break coming Off-Broadway in Bouncers.

Guest work on series like Amazing Stories, Magnum, P.I., and Hunter preceded his feature debut in James Ivory's Slaves of New York.

Anthony gained widespread attention for his scene-stealing performance in Alan Alda's comedy Betsy's Wedding, and throughout the 90s, Anthony appeared in 29th Street, The Client, Bulletproof Heart, and Trees Lounge.

Anthony returned again and again to appear on the NYC stage. In 1993 he was Off-Broadway in On the Open Road, then he received rave reviews for his performance in the Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' The Rose Tattoo. He was back in a revival of Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge, for which he picked up a Tony Award.

Anthony appeared in several high profile movies towards the end of the 90s and into the new millennium, including Summer of Sam, Sweet and Lowdown, The House of Mirth and Lantana.

In 2002, he appeared in The Salton Sea and starred with Keifer Sutherland in the action movie Dead Heat. He also starred alongside Sigourney Weaver in The Guys, a film inspired by the heroism of New York City firefighters during the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.
