Witness

Harrison Ford has never been better than as big city cop John Book, who is assigned to protect an eight-year old Amish boy, the sole witness to a murder. Beautifully written and directed (by Peter Weir), this also boasts a flawless performance from Kelly McGillis as the Amish girl he falls for. As well as a first class thriller, it gives telling insights into the closed world of the un-materialistic Amish community.

Peter Weir's film boasts remarkably sensitive performances from Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis, still among the best either has done, and wide-eyed boy actor Lukas Haas, plus a thrilling 'High Noon'-style shootout at the climax.

One of the villains is played by Danny Glover, before he became part of the Lethal Weapon team.
