Cameron Flying High
Diaz considers WWII dramaCameron Diaz is reportedly in talks to star in W.A.S.P.S., a WWII-set drama about the first female pilots recruited by the military in 1942.
Writer-director Jan Eliasberg is set to rewrite the script.
Actress Mimi Rogers said: "This is a little-known aspect of American history.
It was started by Jackie Cochran, who got this program off the ground to give women the chance to handle Stateside duties."They did everything but combat, and this story is about the first group of 28. Jackie knew that if this group failed, the controversial program would be halted, and so she made sure to recruit the top female pilots in the country."
Rogers, who hopes to play Cochran in the film, said the pilots were trained in Sweetwater, Texas, and 39 of them perished while flying missions around the country.
Eliasberg said: "This will be a classic war movie in the tradition of From Here to Eternity or The Dirty Dozen. The twist is that this is the story we haven't yet seen: women bonding during war time, women who are every bit as brave, as flawed and as heroic as their male counterparts."
