A wild comic fantasy from the director of Batman.
Tim Burton's visually delightful live-action cartoon provides Michael Keaton, looking like Ken Dodd after an accident with a hair-dryer, with a non-star-billed but definitely star part as the raucous and repulsive 'bio-exorciser' Betelgeuse, who can only be contacted when his name is pronounced (correctly) three consecutive times.
Among the ghosts who feel the need to get in touch with him are Mr and Mrs Maitland (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), a couple of newly-deads who are confined to a living hell in their own home, which is being destroyed by its obnoxious new owners, a city couple with a daughter (Winona Ryder) majoring in weirdness.
Burton's quirky vision of the after-life springs into life especially when Keaton's grotesque character is on screen.
