John Travolta is the only saving grace of this mess of a movie whose premise could have made it so good. Travolta plays a cool music teacher in the Fifties who arrives at a school for wayward and orphaned boys run on Draconian lines by martinet headmaster Richard Jordan. Travolta becomes the breath of fresh air who indoctrinates the boys into the pleasures of rock and roll music. Unfortunately the producer (Problem Child's Robert Simonds) and debutant director Jeffrey Hornaday (he choreographed Flashdance) failed to secure the rights to any authentic music from the era (Randy Edelman supplies the score). This lack of foresight (or should we say, effort) is an insult to Travolta and the viewer.
