A grim love story from Australia, set in the Bohemian world of fringe theatre and rock music. Noni Hazlehurst is outstanding as a single parent who dumps her steady boyfriend for a heroin junkie. But for all the film's pretentions to social comment, it would be little more than a superior but downbeat soap opera but for the poignancy of its leading performance.
