Also known as The Sleepers, this is a fast-paced if formula thriller. The idea is clever and the story starts strongly. But implausibilities and disjointed events soon overwhelm our sympathy with the leading characters. Sidney Poitier and River Phoenix bond together quite well as the FBI agent and prospective Air Force trainee who become involved in a dodgy situation as society spies, but acting honours are stolen from both of them by Richard Bradford (once ITV's 'Man in a Suitcase') as a dangerous KGB agent. Like Poitier's, his performance is loaded with controlled intensity.
