There's a tiny glimpse of Brad Pitt in his first role in this predictable but still gripping drama that questions the place of ancient religious beliefs in 20th-century society. The drama begins when the baby son of a peaceful, religious Amish farmer is stoned to death and an eager prosecutor tries to badger the farmer into bringing those responsible to justice, rather than relying on the Lord's vengeance. The earnest performances of the cast, notably Ken (thirtysomething) Olin as the district attorney and Ron (Beauty and the Beast) Perlman as the farmer, lend credibility to an intelligently written TV movie with a message.
