Think it would be tedious, eavesdropping on stag and hen parties and the dogfights in the 48-hour run-up to an Italian-American wedding? Think right! A colleague thought the piece well-observed and that may well be so: the film is certainly well thought of in some quarters. But an accurate portrait of a boring lifestyle and klutzy characters still makes for a boring film. The bridegroom (Ron Eldard) is a deli assistant who even wants to party with the boys on his honeymoon night. It's the height of his ambition. The bride (Annabella Sciorra, in her first big leading role) is a foul-mouthed, angel-faced sweetie understandably having doubts about the whole thing. The ending is obvious right from the beginning but, even so, we still hoped someone might get shot and liven things up a bit.
