A triumph of prosthetic, state-of-the-art effects over a silly plot, this is the story of a potion that restores eternal youth - at a price. Meryl Streep is every inch the glamorous Broadway star, who feels age gripping her by the throat when she sees dowdy Goldie Hawn (from whom she had stolen plastic surgeon Bruce Willis) looking exquisite at 50. So she rushes off to mystery woman Isabella Rossellini. This is a cue for a whole barrage of special effects which have already started when Goldie blows up to 20 stone after Willis has deserted her. Heads swivel, limbs stick out at awkward angles but still function and a see-through hole can be made in the middle of a body. The pace is sometimes a bit slow for a comedy, but there's always the next effect to look forward to.
