This film centres on the short-lived American fad of `tough man' contests - no-holds-barred amateur boxing matches. Dennis Quaid plays Art Long, a country singer who's not doing so well. A try at a fight for some quick money sets him on a new career path. This sounds intreresting, but to its discredit, the film emerges as nothing more than a fairly poor rip-off of `Rocky'. The story's not very convincing, the fight sequences even less so. Quaid never looks like he's going to lose, so dramatic tension's in short supply, too. What acting kudos there are go to Warren Oates as Quaid's ambitious manager.
