Groundhog Day

A perfectly cast Bill Murray plays Phil Connors, the cynical TV weatherman who finds himself reliving the same February day over and over again. After going through phases of confusion, frustration, desperation and resignation, Phil eventually uses the time to win over his smart and sexy producer Rita (Andie MacDowell)... not the easiest task in only 24 hours. Fantastically entertaining and brilliantly paced, this is unarguably one of the funniest movies ever made.

Groundhog Day is a real-life weather-predicting festival that takes place on 2 February every year in the American town of Punxsatawney, Pennsylvania.

Cynical TV weatherman Bill Murray is sent with his producer Andie MacDowell to report on the event and finds himself in a time warp. Groundhog Day For, no matter what he does - rob a bank, insult people, commit suicide - he wakes up at exactly 6.00am on the same morning.

In his best ever role, Murray is perfect and this sweet and funny, if inevitably repetitive, film is full of imagination and hilarious situations. Apparently, Murray was bitten by the groundhog twice during filming.

A true modern great. Highly original and a picture which does not allow itself to become ridiculous. The plot at all times retains its well paced structure based around the hilarity of its concept and Bill Murray's growing fondness for Andie McDowell.

Just magical and so funny, especially Phil's encounters with Ned, Mr Insurance Man. I love this movie and even the normally wooden Andie McDowell is charming. At its heart its about becoming a better person and how inlearning to give you in turn receive. Usually this type of film prompts me to reach for a sick bag but the message is wrapped up in an hilarious movie. Yes it is repetitive (it is meant to be) but I never get tired of watching it because of its soul and Bill Murray. Perfect.
