This comedy-romance is definitely not a remake of Ernst Lubitsch's wonderful 1932 comedy, but rather a revamp of Lina Wertmuller's provocative 1975 film, Swept Away (disastrously remade under that title with Madonna last year). Here the role of the rich, selfish woman marooned on a desert island is taken by an elegantly attired Raquel Welch, with the part of the hard-drinking rough-diamond sailor going to Jack Thompson. At some point the plot involves smugglers and, of course, our porcelain heroine finds herself drawn to our earthy hero. Whereas the original drew you into the fates of its characters, this one passes the time pleasantly enough, but is only for committed fans of the stars, who will enjoy seeing them making the most of being cast to type.
