Sean S Cunningham's extremely nasty and gory stalk-and-slash chiller is, unfortunately, one of the key horror films of its era, spawning a slew of sequels and copies. Betsy Palmer is Mrs Voorhees, the rampaging killer who slaughters a group of dispensable youngsters at Camp Crystal Lake. It's a long, tedious, bad-karma wait till the all-stops-out climax, and the film's only other point of interest is Tom Savini's professional job on the stunts and trick work. Look out for young Kevin Bacon as Jack.
