Now there's bad and there's very bad. But Laker Girls is really bad, the kind of film that makes Baywatch look like a Harrison Ford action blockbuster. Instead of swimsuits, the Laker Girls are bursting out of their cheerleaders' outfits and director Bruce Seth Green makes sure we get plenty of chances to see them do it. Dramatically, there would seem to be some possibilities in the rivalry between three girls to make the dance squad that entertains before Lakers' basketball games. But Green single-mindedly ignores them all, so that nearly two hours in the company of these giggly airheads seems about 100 minutes too long. Jean Simmons slums it in a very small role as the grandmother of one of the girls - but not, she may reflect on seeing the results, small enough.
