A secretary makes a studio boss watch three short films, directed by actresses Helen Mirren, Mary Stuart Masterson and Anne Heche.

Mirren's Happy Birthday segment is the best of this TV movie trilogy compendium.

It has the engaging John Goodman, Christopher Lloyd and David Hyde Pierce as stars in a clever futuristic satire about a time when people are sectioned off according to their potential.

The heroine (Sydney Tamiia Poitier, daughter of actor Sidney) is an A-student whose cleverness threatens her ability to survive.

Heche's erstwhile gal-pal, Ellen DeGeneres, has a cameo in her also enjoyable section, Reaching Normal, in which Andie MacDowell plays an unhappy wife whose life is turned upside down by mind-reader Paul Rudd.
