A deadeningly over-performed comedy about a group of grasping relatives all willing to go to any lengths to get their hands on the $25 million scrap metal fortune of their elderly, wheelchaired Uncle Joe (Kirk Douglas). All, that is, except failed pro bowler Danny (Michael J Fox), who isn't interested - until the relatives drag him into the act. They're super-worried about the old man's nubile 'nurse' (Olivia D'Abo) whom they're afraid will inherit the lot. We never do find out if Olivia is after the old guy's money, but she's such a bad actress here that no one will care. Under director Jonathan Lynn's far from gentle persuasion, a whole cast of seasoned pros go further over the top than in a TV variety sketch: interest bites the dust quicker than in almost any film in living memory. Incidentally, the family name is McTeague, the name of the principal character in the 1923 classic Greed: it's a little doubtful if anyone will get this in-joke, yet it's the only hint of subtlety around. Nancy Travis alone plays it all straight.
