Although this vigorous Disney fantasy lays on its Oirish blarney with a trowel, the special effects are far ahead of their time and director Robert Stevenson rampages through the incident-filled plot in the smartest possible order. Jimmy O'Dea is totally beguiling as the king of the leprechauns, while Sean Connery (in his first leading role) and Kieron Moore make a virile hero and villain who have a bruising fight at the end over appealing Janet Munro. One or two of the grimmer moments, especially those involving a ride on the Death Coach, may be rather scary for the very young.
