This true story about Edna Gladney, the woman who founded the Texas Children's Homes and fought for the rights of orphaned children, was the first film that teamed Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon. It's pretty much a tear-jerker from start to finish and indeed is a little too maudlin and melodramatic for its own good. But there are still a few good scenes, especially Greer's impassioned speech to the Texas senate, and it's all shot in lovely soft Technicolor. Garson and Pidgeon went on to better things together, the best of which was undoubtedly the classic Mrs Miniver.
