James Garner is effective in this Western, as a man haunted by the death of his squaw wife, but he can't stop Sidney Poitier from running away with the film as a sharp-dressing horse-breaker. The beginning's fine, with bold helicopter work over two lone figures in scrub country, and the direction keeps things going at a remorseless pace. The action is blood-and-thunder at its best: seldom can arrows have thudded more convincingly into their victims!
