Who killed Joy Morgan? That's the big question confronting police officer Lou Corbin, who is faced with the task of tracking down her murderer. And there's a certain personal involvement, too, because he was a friend of Joy. The action is centred in a large hospital. And there's no lack of suspects. Surgeon Max Heller (Stephen Macht) at one time dated the girl, as did chief pathologist Paul Trenton (John Rubinstein). Kim Basinger plays Laury Melford, the spoiled daughter of the hospital's chairman of the board, who planned to marry Max and felt that Joy was the `other woman' in his life. Nancy Marchand is cast as Paul's mother, Dr Martha Trenton, who thought of Joy as a cheap blonde and disliked her for interfering in her plans for her son's career, which included marrying Laury. The showdown is set in the pathology lab, and after a series of deductions and analyses, Lou comes up with the answer to the question of who killed Joy.
