An unusually straight role for Donald Sutherland, an actor who has specialised in the eccentric, as an insurance investigator who hijacks a priceless diamond necklace from a gang of jewel thieves. Perhaps it's not so surprising to find him in the part, however, as it followed directly on from his hugely successful detective in Klute, As to be expected from a film by Tom Gries, this thriller moves along in fine style, although the romantic comedy overtones refuse obstinately to blend with the rest of the film and nothing quite matches up to the slickly enjoyable opening sequence. Lucien Ballard's elegant Technicolor photography is a plus factor throughout, especially in the lushness of the scenes set in the Bahamas.
