This is a silly but stylish chiller by Australian director Peter Weir, who made Picnic at Hanging Rock and, later in America, Witness. Weir's confident direction of the bizarre material makes this a film to ponder upon. Richard Chamberlain is pretty good as the bemused lawyer, enmeshed in Aborigine tribal lore which seems to be connected with a series of 'natural' disasters, and who finds the chilly hand of fate leading him and his family in a direction he'd rather not go.
