Epic action saga spun around the 1883 Krakatoa volcanic explosion, with an old-fashionedfeel from its stale ingredients of sunken treasure in ancient shipwrecks, deep-sea divers in difficulties, mutiny and fire. The action blazes across the screen, although at infrequent intervals, while the characters are skin deep, exactly as you'd expect in a disaster flick. Originally shot in C-I-N-E-R-A-M-A, which heightened (or at least widened) the action but magnified the film's faults. Three out of ten for film-making; nought for geography: the orginal title was Krakatoa - East of Java and Krakatoa is famously west of Java.
