A police story with a difference, this hinges on a terminally ill police officer named O'Malley (Larry Hagman) barely a fortnight from retirement and the pension that will care for his family. Dennis Dugan portrays the officer who, when O'Malley dies while out on patrol, tries to `beat the system' by convincing the department that he is still alive so that his family will be provided for. Robert Culp stars as the tyrannical sergeant who believes in sticking to the rules and who above all must be deceived about the fact of O'Malley's death.
