Although the corn is as high as an elephant's eye in the script of this comedy-musical with a country and western flavour, Dolly Parton proves again her facility for mocking her own image, and her songs (15 of them) make the film much more lively musically than The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Sylvester Stallone also sings acceptably as the loudmouthed Bronx cab driver whom Dolly tries to turn into a singing star for a bet. Still, it's Dolly's show, whether deflating the male macho image by the lift of an eyebrow, or moving into more positive action by flooring an antagonist with a single punch. `Who are you? ' Stallone gasps. `Jane Wayne'? '
