In the Good Old Summertime

Musical set in turn-of-the-20th-century Chicago, starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson as workplace enemies who don't realise they are lonely hearts pen pals.

A musical remake of the 1940 romance 'The Shop Around The Corner', with the location switched from Budapest to Chicago. Judy Garland is virtually the whole show and the songs include, besides the title number, I Don't Care, Merry Christmas, Put Your Arms Around Me Honey and Wait 'Til the Sun Shines, Nellie. The three-year-old tot who appears with Judy and Van Johnson at the end of the picture is Judy's daughter Liza Minnelli. The plot made another, more recent reappearance in the Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan film You've Got Mail.
