An unlikely but fairly charming story about a 13-year-old French boy who lives in a world of films and a 13-year-old American girl who lives in a world (her mother's dizzy social whirl) from which her high IQ and sensible outlook leave her completely alienated. Their innocent affair culminates in a wild flight to Venice to kiss in a gondola under the bridge of sighs. The two youngsters (Diane Lane and Thelonious Bernard) are attractive but have their thunder stolen from them by the supporting cast. Broderick Crawford is splendid as himself, turning up at a party and growling `I figured what the hell, the booze is free and maybe I'll get laid'.
