A vivid study of changing relationships, this absorbing movie was the first of director Maurice Pialat's films to be commercially released in this country, earning a great deal of critical praise. Strong performances from Isabelle Huppert as an intelligent middle class girl involved with a working class layabout, Gérard Depardieu as the eponymous Loulou ad Guy Marchand as Huppert's one-time lover add to the impact of a film described by France Soir as `one of the finest French films of the year'.
